Card Reader problem
Hello,

I have a Acer Aspire E380 (heavily modified) but I still have the same motherboard and the same 9-in-one card reader that came with it. The card reader is not working... when I put a card into it, it says "Windows cannot recognize this device" and it won't work. I have rebooted and everything, and it won't work. It says it is USB, which it is, but it is connected to the motherboard USB slot.

I cannot find drivers anywhere! I have Googled it and Googled the part number and nothing. I called Acer and they said they can do nothing to help me because my warranty is finished.

Can anyone direct me to the drivers?

Here is some numbers and information:

Acer E380 machine running Windows XP SP1 32bit

The card reader part number is: CR.10400.001
Another number on the reader is: 31500123201-B

If anyone can help me at all, please help me I will appreciate it very very much. I need to get these pictures onto my computer.

Did this system come with Windows Vista installed? If so, you have to find Windows XP drivers for all hardware. I also wouldn't recommend running SP1 on XP. You need SP2 at least.

If you look in Device Manager, you'll probably find several errors. At the very least, you'll need some type of chipset drivers. It's possible, however, that the card reader simply won't work under XP. This is a risk of downgrading.

Well if you really sure your memory card is working well, try to install your card reader another system to make sure is working. Anyway, you can always buy new card reader about 15 bucks. Update you XP, install all service packs too.

Here is the Acer drivers download page:

Yeah I found my drivers page and there is nothing for the card reader... I can't plug it into a different system without removing my heat sink from my CPU, I will try and switch the USB slot it is plugged into though.

There isn't likely going to be anything specific to a media card reader. Did you follow the rest of my post? Chipset drivers? Device Manager?

Sorry, I meant to put SP2 on there... I was thinking of Vista for a second there

There are no errors under Device Manager

It has worked before, but it stopped working and says it cannot recognize it... I need some type of drivers so it CAN recognize it, and I have my latest chipset drivers installed.

When did it stop working? Following an operating system install? A hardware mod? Software install?

It does this sometimes, but it usually only lasts for one time (next time I reboot it is fine) but now it still won't recognize it after 5 reboots in these past few days... Windows just says it can't find out what is connected but it knows that something is connected... I just can't believe there are no drivers for it.
