Solved: External HDD not installing
I just got a Masscool External Harddrive mount, model: UHB-330U. I've tried it on two computers, with two different usb cables, and nothing. The required drivers don't seem to be there. It comes up in the removable devices as "USB Mass Storage Device", but it is not given a drive letter, nor does it show up in the "My Computer" interface. When I googled for it's drivers, I only saw win98 drivers, because it's supposed to be plug and play. The hard drive inside works, it was detected by bios. I can't figure out what is wrong. I thought it might be that is was wiped and not formatted, but i cannot find any way to format it if it won't show up on the computer as a drive.

I'm running Win XP SP2, and i'm trying it in working USB 2.0 ports.

Don't install any drivers. It doesn't need any.

Check Disk Management to see if the drive appears. Before using a new drive, you should make sure to remove all partitions from the drive, create new one(s), and format NTFS. If the drive appears in Disk Management, right-click and remove any volumes it contains and make a new partition.

Right-click Computer > Manage > Disk Management.

You're welcome. Thanks for following up.

It seems that some people lose access to externals if they just use them out of the box. I think its always a good idea to prepare them with the OS that will be using them. I guess you had no choice this time.
