Solved: external monitor works with clon but not dualview
I just bought an Acer X223w monitor. I hooked it up to my laptop yesterday and it worked fine with dualview. Today I turned everything on and the monitor wont work correctly. It will connect with clone and single view with only the monitor. When I try to put it into dualview it tells me "input not supported" and then just goes back to the display it had.

I have an HP laptop with Vista x64. I used to have a Dell monitor connected in the same way with absolutely no problems.

Please help.

have you tried changing the resolution on the second monitor?

Yes I have changed the resolution. Further investigation has shown that the monitor allows me to have dualview if it is the main screen and the laptop display is the extender but not the other way around. Unfortunately I would prefer to have the laptop display as the main screen and the monitor as the extender. I don't understand why it does this because it worked fine yesterday.

I've had my own share of problems with dual monitors and their settings with different TVs, laptops, or desktops. Sometimes you can easily change the settings from the windows' display settings window and sometimes you have to use the software that's provided by the graphic card and occasionally do a few restarts here and there. Sometimes if you right click on the desktop, an option is given for dual screens, but I'd be really careful since you could knock out both screens. Play a bit more with different resolutions on both screens, like set them both to lowest possible, or highest possible resolution. Also, make sure you have the latest gpu drivers.

Crazy but it works. It makes sense when thinking about Windows though. I had been trying to set up the dual monitors using the nvidia control panel. I followed your suggestion and tried doing it through the right click and use windows method. It worked fine that way. thanks for the help.
