Exclamation Help me build my PC
Help me build my PC, Needing Hardware recommendations.

Hello. I'm currently running a:
Intel Pentium 4 2.80 GHz
RADEON 7000 Series
512 RAM
Biostar Motherboard
Seagate Barracuda PATA 230GB [No need to upgrade]
AOC 913W Monitor [No need to upgrade]

I'm looking for a cheap good hardware I'm not a gaming PC guy, I do watch some Movies on PC but not much, and I would buy from newegg.com or other store.

Looking for Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel Core 2 Quad (The Best one in a fair price not more than $150)

Thanks in advance.

If your not gaming or (for example) 3d work, photo/video work whatever, I'd say get a core 2 duo, an E8200 woud be fine (and quite powerful to boot), but if you really need a quad core, Q6600 is always a solid buy, but if your worried about heat, Q8200 is slightly slower but the 45nm speeds it up a bit and keeps it cool as a cucumber. Radeon HD4670 is a good budget buy, but you could go a lot less than that 4650 or even a previous gen card. DDR2 RAM is a dime a dozen, you could easily go 2 or 4GB for less than AUD$100 (sorry, I don't know american prices, but even after the exchange rate it should be lower than our equivilant). Motherboards always a bit hard, but I would say spend a bit more on your motherboard, and if you want stability, intel chipsets are the way to go (pls they run cooler than the nuclear reactor that is nForce). ASUS and Gigabyte are my two favourites, MSI good for rock solid boards. and I've heard good things about EVGA but have never used one myself. Maybe a P45/35.

Another thing, do NOT skimp on the power supply and buy a good brand (OCZ, Corsair, Antec).

Sorry I can't tell you much about price, being an Aussie a good deal here may be a horrible deal there.

Thanks for the reply. Any recommendations for the fan of Quad Q6600?

The really issue is getting compatible hardware together.

I pressume you mean a CPU cooler. If your overclocking, Zalman CNPS9700 or Thermalright Ultra-120, but if your not, the stock one should be fine. Maybe just replace the heat pads with some quality thermal paste/grease for example Antec Silver 5. as long as you have the right slots, compatability won't be a problem. just check that the motherboard is a) LGA775 and b)DDR2 and it'll be fine, although some of the very first 775 chipsets don't support core2's but it should say what it supports anyway.

You can easily build a computer for under 300 from tigerdirect.com. Since your not a gammer you can get a motherbord with a build in video card + a duel core procesor for about 100$ (Example) Then you can get this 4gig duel channle ram for 30$ (Example). Then you need a box that comes with a power supply which is 40$ (Example). I dont think the motherbord/procesor combo that i linked comes with a fan either use your old one or get a new one and you have a computer for 170$ pluss 12$ S/H.

Final specs are somthing like 2.6gig dc. proc., 4gig of SDDR duel channle ram, and a good for anything that isnt hard core gaming graphix card built in.

Unless your operating system is 64bit the most windows will recongnize is 4gigs of ram anyways, and with 4 gigs of ram you can watch 4 movies at the same time if you realy want while surfing the net and downloading music on itunes.

I sugest you look around on tiger some and find what you realy want, but honestly you cant beat 4gigs of ram for 30$.

then get something like a 9500GT, it runs AoE3 on a 22" screen fine, and that was with everythign else a lot worse than what twistedpower suggested.

Everything I sugested should play all of your games very well, I was talking about a game like say Age of Conan which is graphics heavy and basically all eye candy. And even then it could probibly play that game with the settings turned down if you realy want to with almost 0 problems.

for the mobo get the asus all the way it is better

if you can spend 188 for the processor then get believe me it will be better than the quad 2.3 and of course better than the 2.3 core 2 duo
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8500 - Retail

the ram is good but not very good and i recommend getting 2 of these

the video card is good and the psu isn't good but it will do the job so
