Solved: Buying a new graphics card
if i was going to buy a new graphics card for any pc, what would be the specs i should look for. my friend told me that i need to look for bus speed and see if the motherboard would be able to run it but is there anything else i need to look for.
remember, this is not for any pc inperticuler

you have to narrow it down a bit
what pc is this for, or what MB
if its the one in your sig that is pretty old

it is not for a computer with any specs. all i want to know is what specs of the gfx card have to match with the specs of the MB. i dont want to know what one i should buy i want to know how to decide if the card would be compatible with the MB.

As brite says, thats a very general question. In terms of compatability with a motherboard, you would need to know id it takes PVI, AGP, or PCI-e. Apart from that, you would need to be more specific, as the card would need to be one that would be good for the system, but not too good- no point getting a 260 for a P3 system!

in general its easy most newer MB's are PCI-express16x so thats the type of card you buy. you decide how much performance you need and how much money you have and narrow down your choices from there.

Need to know what slot the motherboard has.
PCI,AGP,PCI Express X16 or PCI Express 2.0.
A PCI Epress X16 first version will run in a 2.0 slot,
but usually at half the band wicth.
What are the power requirements and will your power supply
handle it.
Will you be trying to run more than 1 card in SLI or crossfire mode,
and do you have the correct motherboard for that.
What,exactly do you need the card for.
Games,web surfing,professional editing,CAD/CAM.
There are different types of cards for different applications.

yes i know about the different types of card all i wanted to know was what i needed to check to see if it was capable with the MB. thank you for your help guys i know now.
