Typically the jumper should be set to Master.
Change it and see if that helps.

When troubleshooting at a distance. more info is better than less.
"Did not work", while admirably brief , doesn't tell me:
A. What didn't work.
B. What, if any, errors you may have encountered.

Do not run chkdsk on that drive unless you have copies of your data. If it succeeds, the data may be permanently lost.

Repair the partition table with Testdisk
or
Testdisk Boot Floppy Image.

That will allow normal access to the drive. Copy all your data and then use Disk Management to remove the partitions, create new ones, and format.

Right-click Computer > Manage > Disk Management.

With Testdisk, you need to scan the drive and then choose the partition that is found that is closest to the original size. Then, the changes need to be written to disk. Once that is done, the drive may appear in Explorer on next boot.

The fact that the drive is detected at all, and that you received the error you did from NTFS Recovery, implies that the drive is still working.
