possible causes of no POST screen
I have a Compaq V3000 laptop, which suddenly just froze and would not start again. It would not go even show the POST screen, just plain blank. After trying out many of the things posted in the forums, nothing worked. Then I send it to a service center, they checked it and they reckon the motherboard has died. Why? they say its because I used a transcend RAM which HP Compaq laptops do not like.

Is it possible?
What are the chances of a motherboard failing due to RAM?

I've never had a board fail due to incompatible ram. Incompatible ram, or failed ram would not keep your board from giving you a POST message, and perhaps some beep codes.

I can tell you that HP, or Compaq computers are made with the cheapest parts possible. They were not made to last. In fact, I refer to them as "throw-away PC's" or "disposable PC's". Heat is the worst enemy, and laptops are more prone to overheating.

If it is not posting, I would say it's due for the dumpster. I do not agree with what they said about the cause. The cause is cheap parts, heavy use, and heat. If it is getting enough power, but is not posting, your board is dead. If it were posting but something else is wrong, such as graphics, or memory, you would at least hear some beep noises.

I agree that the system has most likely either a mb or power supply failure however this part of IMiteBable2help's post is not correct

Failed ram will stop post. You may or may not get a beep code however it will not post with failed ram.

oops. You are right. I guess what I was really getting at is that you would at least hear some beep codes. That is, if the board is still capable of making such noises. If you're missing the tiny speaker, then you'll hear nothing.
