External SATA issue
So A few years back I received a 320gb Seagate barracuda (7200.10) drive as a gift but was unable to use it, so it sat on a my shelf for awhile till recently when I purchased an external enclosure (VOX brand). When I hook up the drive I can hear it rev up then stop and make a beep (chirp?) sound and start right back up and do the same thing for about five minutes than it just stops. The drive wont show up under my computer or disk management. After looking around a bit more it sounds like the drive may not be getting enough power...
Any ideas as to what the problem may be? Or am I stuck with a brick?

It's been my experience that the HDDs are more reliable than the enclosures.
Can't really tell anything till you try it in another enclosure .. or in a computer.

Some SATA connectors are a little loose and the drive vibrations will work it loose.
Make sure it's in tight and bolted down ... I've had them work loose at the wrong time.

What is the connection? USB, Sata cable into the internal port or eSata?

Does the enclosure draw power from your PC and has its own power supply?

It has usb along with eSATA, and draws power from an AC adapter

If connecting it via eSATA ..
It has to be on when rebooting the computer before it'll be recognized.
But this doesn't match your description of the problem.

I would try Noyb's suggestion - Hook up the eSata connection, power up the external drive before switch on the PC.

The other alternative is to hook up as a USB disk and that can be done after the PC has been powered up.

Problem is I have no way of hooking it up via eSATA, and have tried the driver disk that came with it

It takes a Motherboard with SATA ports to hookup via eSATA.
You might want to try another enclosure.

BUT .. If connected via eSATA .. the USB will not work.
i.e.. Only one connection at a time

If connecting via eSATA .. The external must be on when the computer is booted ...
or the external will not be recognized.
If connected via USB .. it will auto play

Right, so I tried using it with just USB, both from start up and trying it after the computer has booted but still no luck. The hard drive sound like it is beeping/chirping but will quit after a while
