Question WRT54G (v5) is toast... any new suggestions?
I've had this router for years, and it's finally bit the dust.

I've tried re-booting it, re-flashing it... I've tried everything, and after 3 hours of troubleshooting, I gonna say it's done it's job and it's time for a new one.

But what to buy? I've been reading reviews on some new linksys products like the WRT54g2, but some of the reviews I'm seeing are fairly mixed.

I wire everything to my router, the wireless option gets used periodically with a laptop or iPhone or whatever else a guest may have that's wireless.

I'm just curious if there are any recommendations out there for a 4 port router that will have 2PCs and an Xbox360 wired to it (and a stable wireless connection for certain occasions)

I had such good luck with the WRT54G, I should probably just buy the same unit again. But I thought I'd explore some other brand names like Dlink, Belkin, etc. and ask, should I stick with linksys? do I really need wireless N?

thnx ladies and gents.

I've always had great sucess with Linksys, just retired one of mine that was 7 years old and never had a problem with it.

I just recently took this one as partial payment for a job. It has good reviews, but I never hooked it up because I don't use wireless and I had another wired unit sitting on the shelf so I used it.

I agree that Linksys quality is amongst the best though I have similar great performance out of DLink as well. Check this unit out it will give you more power and with wireless "N" a stronger signal:

Thanx for the suggestions, it would be hard for me to turn away from Linksys after this one little unit lasted for 5 years or so... I've also always used DLink PCI cards for ethernet, I think I've had the same one for like 10 years now, but never had any experience with the DLink router... I'll give em both a look.

Newegg has the 30 refund policy on both of the items you guys suggested... So I may experiement.

Thanx again.
