Solved: Video Card Dead?
Computer Specs:
Win XP Home SP3
ATI Radeon X1600
1.24 gigs ram
3ghz Intel 4

My video card seemingly stopped functioning not too long ago and I'm beginning to think it's dead, however it gave me no indication that it was on its way out.

I recently moved and when I brought my computer to my new place, I installed a new cable modem into my computer and my monitor was not working. I unplugged the modem and restarted and it booted up fine. Once it was finished, I plugged in the modem and was ready to go. The next day the same thing happened, so I restarted my computer with the cable unplugged and it booted up fine, but then right after it was done booting up, the screen went black, without the cable in.

Before I moved, my monitor was working fine and gave me no problems. It was after the move this happened. This could be just a coincidence, but thought maybe I'd bring that up.

Anyway, now that I'm trying to solve this problem, I have formatted my computer (for other reasons other than this problem, it was just the nail in the coffin so-to-speak) and the onboard graphics card is working fine. It's just a really big screen and fairly slow at processing information onscreen like an onboard usually does.

I've omitted installing the drivers straight from my disc that I got when I purchased my video card and went straight for the updated drivers on the ati website. Once installed, I restarted and the screen goes black after the Windows XP screen shows up.
I then started in safe mode, deleted the drivers and restarted the computer. Again the onboard graphics made it so I could start my computer up normally. This time I decided to install the drivers straight from my disc that came with my video card when I first bought it. It went without a problem, I restarted and the same problem occurs; the screen goes black after the Windows XP screen boots up.

As of now, the only way I can use my computer is if I either go into safe mode (which doesn't allow me to access the internet for some reason...it has before in the past) or boot up without any video card drivers installed.

I'm starting to think that my video card died, but I wanted to see what others' opnions were in case I am missing something vital.

Thank you

Have you tried re-seating the Video Card......or if possible putting it in another spare slot if available.

Sure I can try reseating the card, in all my haste I have forgotten that simple step.
And I forgot to mention that my video card is AGP, so I can't put it in another slot. This computer is I think 5 years old now
