after copying in the five backup registry hive files to the Config folder:

Once you are sure you have a backup of original config folder, delete the following 5 files first

Default
Sam
Security
Software
System

than rename those five files you pasted into config folder to the same names

I.E. _REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT becomes DEFAULT
_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM becomes SAM etc etc

reboot machine and hope for the best

If it is no good we'll take it from there

Use Powerdesk Pro on MiniPE disc which is a type of Windows Explorer program to navigate to Windows/System32/Config and the other folders for copy and paste operations

There used to be a toolbar shortcut for it on the bottom in my version, not sure about the win2k5 September update to Feb 27, 2009 version though

It should take about 5 minutes to load everything with MiniPE type CD bootdisk--once you see the Start button and Taskbar on bottom than it is done loading and you can start choosing which program you need. Try Powerdesk Pro first for simple file explorer functions and to implement the directions above

Hopefully it's not a serious physical problem like hardware

Try some of the hard drive diagnostic tools and do an inventory of your computer using Everest and/or AIDA programs to get a detailed view of computer workings --they list a lot of info from installed software serial numbers Ram specs motherboard serial #'s.... you name it

Test your RAM memory, cpu, video and hard drive for errors/issues
