Question video card woes - 8400 GS not even POST beeps
self build:
intel DP45SG board w/ core 2 duo e8500 CPU
2 GB (2 X 1 GB DDR3) 1333 Crucial memory
no on-board video

dropped in an old S3 ViRGE/GX (Q5C4BB) single VGA PCI card for initial install

removed, and put new nvidia geforce 8400 GS dual (1 X VGA, 1 X DVI) monitor card (ALSO PCI!!!) now i dont even hear POST beeps

put ViRGE card back in (without nvidia), worked fine. went to BIOS, set video configuration to Primary PCI, shutdown, insert nvidia (left ViRGE in), no POST beeps

removed nvidia, everything fine.

Obviously, I want the nvidia dual monitor card to work in the new PC. Works fine in my old Compaq Evo D530 Pentium 4

Thanks in advance!

well i feel a little overwhelmed after doing some more searching. being a video card retard--i dont think this is an nvidia card

its a BFG GeForce 8400 GS

but, when i go to bfgtech for drivers, it takes me to nvidias site. Without the card in, i dont think the drivers will install.

still confused and not working

thanks in advance!

thanks, i have that file.

problem with that is that i cant boot into windows to install the drivers with the card present. also, cant install drivers without card present (install app wont let me)

talked to BFG support - they say no compatibility issue. their explanation is that the board might be too new and PCI is no good for video--even though my old POS ViRGE card works fine in all 3 PCI slots.

calling intel. will post results from that call

Did you plug in the power connector, probably a 6 pin?

Second thought, I think only 8600 and up require that.

well its good to know my android g1 generates a signature (deleted due to lameness) when I can't stay away from forums even at a hockey game...but I digress

no additional power on the 8400 gs but I did check for that earlier

I've got a 8400 gs (pcie) in there until intel support opens on monday.

also found another setting iin bios--pci bus frequency--any clue what this is

last thing--updated bios and chipset drivers because I'm a goober but it still didn't do the trick
