Unhappy Connecting Sony Bravia LCD to Acer 5920
Hi,

I have a Sony Bravia LCD - (KLV -46D300A), KLV-40D300A, KLV32D300A model numbers that are mentioned on the booklet. I also have a Acer 5920 laptop.

I wanted to connect my laptop to the LCD TV for playing the DVD player in my laptop and having the video output on the LCD TV.

The manual suggests using the HDMI wire to connect both i.e Laptop and the LCD Tv, however the Laptop does not seem to have the port to put in the HDMI wire. I got another two wires both with one side USB which goes in my laptop. The other side for one of them is the three colour pins (red, yellow and blue) I tried pluggin in them on the side - and then realised that that side was for the Camcorder connection.

I would really need help to understand which wire I can use which can be connected in both which will give me the desired output to the LCD screen

The laptop and TV both have HD-15 VGA connectors, so that takes care of the video. And the laptop has a headphone/line-out jack and the TV has audio in (probably the red and white jacks you mentioned).

Before you buy cables you will want to verify the laptop graphics adapter can be set to some display resolution that is compatible with the TV VGA input.

Question Thanks
Thanks for that Frank.

So basically, are you saying that I need a cable that has those coloured three points at either side? and not just one side connecting to the LCD and usb to the Laptop?

And how do I verify the compatibility that you stated?

When you say that the laptop and LCD have HD video connectors....thats fine, my main issue is that I am lost as to which cable do I buy which will give me that kind of an output?

I am reading a review for the laptop and it says you do have an HDMI connector. A picture shows it is on one side, between two USB ports and the S-video. That would be your best solution.

Edit: Circled red in the attached picture.

Question Hdmi
I pulled out the manual for the laptop and it was clearly written that the HDMI port is only selected models..and mine doesn't have so. I checked it between the USB and the S port? I don't have it as I even had got the HDMI cable and it doesnt seem to be going in any of the ports in the laptop?

Also, i read somewhere that I could use the S port from the laptop and the S port in the LCD, however again, my laptop has a seven point S port and the TV has 4, so again that won't work!

If the laptop doesn't have an HDMI connector then your next best solution would be a VGA cable for video. It has a 15 pin D shaped connector on both ends, similar to this: http://www.l-com.com/item.aspx?id=2087

For audio you would need a separate cable. You would need a 1/8 inch stereo plug to to 1/8 inch stereo plug cable, similar to this: http://www.l-com.com/productfamily.aspx?id=1314

You don't need these exact cables, the links are only to show what types are needed.
