Psu for p4 duel core
Hi every one.

I have recently purchased a dekstop pc from Currys and decided to upgrade the graphics from built in to PCI-E graphics. Any way It only has a 300w psu and I have decided that this isnt enought and I want 500w. I am also going to upgrade from 1gb of 667mhz to 2gb of 800mhz. I am just wondering whether this PSU will be good enough to power the computer. See computer specs aswell.

Neither one of them is worth buying. They may be a good deal for pound per imaginary watt, but the problem is they really are imaginary. Also they will break after a while of usage. We'd also need to know the graphic card you're going to get...
However, if you're not getting a 200 £ card, then this should suffice: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Pr...SU-400W-CX400W

No I am not upgradeing my graphics card that is staying as the 9400gt. I just want a cheap power supply because I cant afford to spend £40 of a power supply. Anything will be better than the cheap 300w standard one I have now. I meen I have never had a problem with the one I have and that is probably the cheapest one that the computer manafacturer could buy.

If you can't afford to spend money on a power supply, and your current power supply is not already broken, then don't buy a new one. Cheap power supplies are cheap for a reason, they're low quality, they don't really meet their expectations, and they die quicker than good ones.

Power supplies often get overlooked because you can't really get any performance boosts out of them, but really, they're one of the most crucial parts of the system. A flaky power supply will mess everything up.

There's no reason to "upgrade" a cheap power supply to another cheap power supply, because it's not really an upgrade. When it burns out (and it most likely will), you'll have to buy another one anyway, so you might as well spend the money now on a decent quality power supply.

I wouldn't automatically think that a PSU isn't better than the one they used...
You decided the PSU isn't enough? Wow, you must be next to God in making things happen. Anyways. Go ahead and get the Winpower. It's new, should last a few months longer. Of course it might not, but it's your headache buying the cheapest unit available. It's going to work about as fine as the current 300 W unit.

45£ 600 W one sounds bad. The 39 £ Corsair 400 W might well be better, it's better than 75% of the 600 W PSUs out there. Post the model number please.
