Question Sound issues; CD & DVD only
My computer seems to recently have developed a problem processing sounds, ONLY when I play a CD or DVD. CDs play far too slow. DVDs sound unbearably choppy & garbled. I tried rolling back my Realtek driver (didn't help,) then I downloaded a newer driver (didn't help.) Considering that all other sounds work just fine, I suspect the problem's with my CD/DVD player. I looked for a newer version of a driver for that, but there doesn't appear to be one. (I'm still able to burn data CDs with no problems. I haven't tried burning a music CD for a few months now, but wasn't having problems with that when I last tried, anyway.)
Although I'm suspecting there's a software-type answer to my question, I was wondering if a build up of dust in the unit might cause a problem like this, too. (I live in a VERY dusty neighborhood.)

Yes, dust can certainly gum up the works in a CD drive. It may be that the drive itself is not running smoothly.

Were there any other changes to the system? Have there been any BIOS changes?

Check the device in Device Manager and see if it is using PIO or DMA access. If it is PIO, try changing it and see if it stays that way after a reboot.

Smile Fixed, thanks!
That was the problem. I had to uninstall the applicable IDE channel to reset it to DMA, but it's working fine now. Thanks much!
