Hardware Corruption
I installed a Server 2008 OS on my Laptop. When I went to connect to my network it coudn't use the Wi-Fi feature. I went on computer Management and it had a question mark. How do I re-install it or re-configure it. Rememeber that I can't go online too fix it as there is no Internet or network.

Download, using the computer that you posted this on, the appropriate drivers for your laptop from the manufacturers download page. Copy them to a CD then install them on the laptop. Or if you can use a wired connection for the laptop you can download them directly to the laptop and install them.

You must access an internet accessible machine to do this:

1) Be sure you have all information for your machine and NIC card, i.e. model number and serial number.

2) Go to your computer manufacturer's website, or your NIC card manufacturers website.

3) Download the latest drivers from either website and save to the curent hard drive, then transfer to disk, either CD or floppy

4) Insert the disk in your computer, then go to Device Manager

5) Right-click on the device with the question mark, (your NIC card)

6) Click on update drivers, and select for your system to look for them in the drive associated with the disk you made

Good luck!

First of all I don't believe a laptop manufacturer is going to have drivers for Server 2008 listed on their website.

The main thing you need to get from the laptop manufacturers site is the motherboard chipset driver. Without the chipset driver the board will not know how to configure the drivers you install.

I agree with win2kpro, but you may find drivers for Vista that will work with server 2008.

Possibly I misunderstood the question. It seemed to me that the problem is in the NIC, not the program, as this person has no connectivity at all?

I'm still in training, and appreciate your insight!

Well since we have no computer specs to go by, it is hard to give better advice, and possibly even help find what is needed. I was going with the assumption that his laptop may just have an Ethernet adapter as well as the Wireless Network adapter as all of the laptops save one has had both.

I may be naive but I don't understand putting a Server OS on a laptop, but then I have never tried to work with a server OS either.

I can't get any drivedrs as none csame with it, there is no internet connection on it and Acer don't seem to supply any drivers. I tried using Ethernet connection but that didn't even work for some reason.

Well have you tried using the a UTP cable? I think there is a RJ45 slot on it. If there is no RJ45 slot there is a card that you can install on the wireless card port.

Acer, like most manufacturer's, requires the end user to create any discs for the system. With Acer's they allow you make a full system recovery disc and an Applications/Driver disc with the Acer eRecovery program that was installed on the laptop.

As for finding Windows Server 2008 specific drivers for a laptop, won't happen. You'll have to try Windows Vista drivers; laptops are not meant for running Server O/S'es.

Here's the downloads page for the Acer Travelmate 5530: http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/for...d=3394#results
