Unhappy Gatway Won't boot to BIOS after Clonezilla attempt
I am having a problem with the following machine:
gateway e-4100
Gateway MIDWAY 4000824
Board: Intel Corporation D865GLC AAC28705-403

I use this machine as test machine and have rebuilt it a few times. I made a clonezilla image to expidite rebuilds and tried to restore it. I booted from the clonezilla live CD, and pointed to the image saved on a USB attached hard drive. It went through the whole restore process and said it was done. I rebooted and it went through the memory check, detected the legacy keyboard, then stopped.

I had a previous problem with a bad flash on a gateway E-3600 giving me "CMOS/GPNV Checksum Bad" similar to these threads:
http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/5...ios-flash.html
http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/7...-problems.html

On the E-3600, reseting the jumper on the board got the system to boot up again. However on the E-4100, this hasn't worked.

I did remove the jumper and the battery and now here's what happens:

The bios screen starts and says:
BF86510A.15A.0043.P07.0308011434

DDR400 ---> Operating in single channel dynamic paging mode
2032 MB System RAM

Legacy Keyboard..........Detected
USB Legacy..................Enabled

<F2> For Setup
<F12> To boot from network

If I hit F12 it says "Network selected as first boot device for current boot" and just hangs there, no more response from keyboard.

When I boot with a portable USB drive connected, the light on the USB comes on and it spins.
It will not boot to a bootable CD or Floppy, in fact the floppy light doesn't come on whe it boots.

I have reset the jumper for the cmos, removed the battery, swapped the batter with a working one, reseated all the cables.

Now I am going to try a network boot, using info from http://www.netbootdisk.com/ and http://www.tdonline.com/bootdisk.htm; both resources I found on this forum.

In the meantime, I need all the help I can get!

How can I make the portable USB drive bootable?
How can I fix this when it won't even bring up the bios?

All the hardware was working fine before I tried the clonezilla restore. (not blaming clonezilla, I don't know what happened).

Thanks for any help and advice at all,

Lynne
