Unhappy Solved: Is my MoBo fried?
Hi,

I just returned home from travelling to be told be my wife that there was a fuse tripped last night, knocking out half the electrics in the house. The fuse switch has been reset and everything works.... except my newly built desktop!! Its surge protector had been removed to enable a router to be plugged in downstairs and re-synchronised! Doh!

Anyway, when I attempt to switch it on there is nothing happening at all, no lights, no sounds... zip. The light on the PSU switch at the rear does come on, so there is power getting to there, but there is no LED lit on the motherboard. There doesnt appear to be any loose connections, frazzled parts or burnt smells.

I was reading the motherboard manual (its an ASUS M2N68-CM) to see if there are any fancy things it does after a powersurge but can't see anything helpful.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I've got my fingers crossed!

power
First thing to do in your case is change out the power supply >equal or greater in wattage.

Hi frankjohn,

Unfortunately the PSU involved (a Hiper 550w) is the biggest I have available, it replaced my earlier 250w one. Also the PSU seems to be the only thing actually working (well the light on its switch anyway!). Is there anthing else I could try just now? Does the mobo have a reset or the like? Though I can't see a battery-cell mounted on this motherboard.

I wouldn't trust a light. If you are blaming a surge or power issue then it most likely would have had to go through the power supply. I'd be trying another power supply.

Much as I really didn't want that to be the answer, I've just done a brief switcharoo with another PSU and everything kicks into life. Thank you both for all your help. Now I'm off to EBay to replace my much loved Hiper.

I'd say you got lucky, a power supply is easier and cheaper to replace then a motherboard and other parts.
