I've tried to find a solution to this problem online. Just finding references to it has been difficult enough. A particular
user review on Amazon sums it up pretty well. Please check it out because he nails it in far fewer words than I do.
The problem is that when using the mic built in to the "Logitech QuickCam For Notebooks," the audio is perpetually perforated with a beeping sound. This does not occur when using the PC's built-in mic, so I know it's not a problem with my system but with the camera unit.
If I'm recording video sometimes I like to have music playing through my laptop speakers. Because the laptop's built-in mic is so close to the speakers, the music can become distorted. Even if played at a low volume, it obscures my voice and compromises the sound quality. However, because the Logitech mic is far enough away from the PC speaker, the music as well as my voice are both clear and discrete (not "discreet," mind you). However, unless I raise the volume on the music loud enough to drown out the beeping, that irritating, distracting sound is noticable as well. There is no beeping sound when I use the PC's mic, and my voice comes through just fine. Unfortunately I can't have music playing through the computer as well because the video winds up with muddy, garbled audio. I'd like to be able to record webcam videos with background music playing through the computer without having to worry about the constant beeping sound.
The obvious workarounds like using some other music source or a different mic are all beside the point. Using postproduction software like Movie Maker or Premiere Pro are also beside the point. The beeping does not belong.
I hope I'm describing the issue well enough for you guys. I just wanted to know if anybody can tell me what this is all about and whether it can be fixed.
