hi dusty of course your right i had forgotten about it doh! and it could be a long haul as each thing needs to be checked but it is the only way to elimanate one by one

By wriggle I mean they moved a tiny bit, so the power button must be having SOME effect...

Graphics card is an NVidia GeForce FX 5200.

So if I do have another system to test out parts with, what do you recommend I do?

Is it worth just taking it in for repairs?

Well it depends on how much it is going to cost just to have the shop diagnose the problem. You are talking about an older computer that if it were working would have a fairly low resale value.
