BSOD and PCIIDEX.SYS
I'm running XP Pro SP2 and suddenly today, my machine started rebooting. It will go to the Windows splash screen, wait a few seconds then I get the BSOD. It flashed too quickly to read (I've since fixed that) and then it rebooted again. I've tried going into Safe Mode, Previous Working Configuration, booting from the original OS disk and doing a reinstall/repair and I still get the BSOD.

I was eventually able to read the error message and this is the gist:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

(instructional verbiage, blah, blah, blah)

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

STOP: 0x000000D1 ( 0x02334160, 0x000000005, 0x000000000, 0xBAB28CC2)

PCIIDEX.SYS - Address BAB28CC2 base at BAB28000, DataStamp 41107b4c

====================

Thanks for your help

If you can boot into Safe Mode, back up your information and install a fresh copy of windows.

recommendation to boot into Safe Mode
Thanks for the response but I can't boot into Safe Mode or any mode for that matter. BSOD comes up a few seconds into the Win XP splash screen.

Hmm...I'm a noob, so the only thing left that I can suggest is to install a fresh copy of windows. (Not completely format the drive, so you don't have to reinstall dirvers, etc.)

Installing a fresh Copy of Windows will require the Drivers to be installed as well. Doing a Repair installation of windows will retain the data files and driver files. give this a read http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm it details the steps to take.
