The chipset driver didn't do anything still no sound
I get this error when i go to volume control through all programs "there are no active mixer devices available" could this mean anything?

OK.....
Click on Start then Run type services.msc click OK
A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio. Right-click and click on Properties.

Make sure that "Startup type" is set to automatic. Also, make sure, under "Service
status," start is selected.

thanks so much! it worked! any idea on how the setting got changed? I really don't want it to happen again.

Not sure...but if it happens often then needs to be check out further........glad you have sound now
