Question Uknown device: code 28 drivers not installed
I am trying to install a Promethean interative whiteboard with a serial connection to a Asus Vintage PE-1 desktop running XP. Downloaded latest drivers and installed. Device appears in system tray, all appears normal but board does not respond.

Drivers are listed in Add/Remove programs, com port says that it is connected. Took a look in Device manager and under mice etc board is listed as unknown device, code 28 drivers not installed .

Removed drivers in add/remove, scanned registry for anything left behind and tried again with same result.

Installed drivers on a laptop and it worked first time.

Can anyone help?

White Board
A few things you can do is "Check the connectors at the White Board". Sometimes they aren't seated completely. Also, make sure the White board is turned on. You would be surprised at how many people simply forget to do this. When I'm checking these kind of items, I do a quick check of all the connections from the peripheral to the computer. Once that's done I check the computer.

I know the board is working correctly as I tested it by installing the drivers on a laptop and connecting the board to that. Thanks anyway.

Ok. That rules out whether the smartboard is working. I would disconnect the Smartboard, remove the drivers from the computer, including out of the registry. Reboot the computer and try again. What OS are you using?

OS is XP....

I have tried disconnecting the board, removing the drivers and checking the registry for any remaining references to the product, then reinstalling but the same thing happens.

I do appreciate you trying to help, I am starting to dispair, may have to swap desktop out for another!
