Exclamation PLEASE HELP!!" We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successf
Hey everyone,

Recently i tried turning on my Aspire One Acer netbook when I got the message as follows:

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows
Normally.

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) Start Windows Normally

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

Seconds until Windows starts: 30

I tried all those options but everytime a blue screen pops up for a split second that's too quick to read. Then the whole thing restarts again.

Before this occured, I downloaded Adobe Flash Player and this program called Free Anti-Virus 2009 came with it with continuous pop ups saying I have trojans on my laptop. I already have AVG installed.

I have read a few forums about this issue, with answers saying you need the Windows XP CD or something to repair it. However, I have a netbook which doesn't have a CD Drive.

What can I do?

There should be a way to restore the system to factory new condition. It is usually a key combination at start up that triggers it. I serched the Acer Support site and they do not even list a owners/user manual for netbooks.

Free Antivirus 2009 sounds like one of the fake programs thats really spyware or a trojan.

If there's nothing on the system that you need to keep you can do the factory restore which will delete everything off the system and restore it to like new. To do that you press ALT and F10 when the Acer logo appears.

Mind you also, for future reference - if you have an anti-virus program already, you should never add a second one - they are incompatible in most cases. As T6 said, it sounds like a trojan. AVG is fine and dandy and does not need a second program to do its job.
