any recommended program for auto-installing drivers?
When I help people reinstall Windows (mostly XP), I usually spend a while looking through the manufacturers' website for their model's official drivers, or using Google or driverscollection.com or something for the really obscure OEMs. Is there any good freeware or cheap program that can automagically determine what drivers a PC is missing and download them?

So far I've found "Driver Update Pro" and "DriverMax," and next time I get access to a Windows box I'll try those out--are there any others?

You could try http://scan.driverguide.com/scan.php
I've not used it myself, but the website is pretty good for finding drivers for just about anything.
