 | Junior Member with 6 posts. | | | | GeForce 9800 gtx conflict I bought a new PNY Geforce 9800gtx yesterday and put it in my computer, however when I turn it on the computer crashes at the initial screen with the motherboard logo. It won't even allow me into bios.
The specs for my computer are:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.00ghz
2 Gb of ram (Although I have tried it with 5 gb and still didnt work)
2X 500gb HDD
Windows 7
Any ideas why this might be happening? | | Senior Member with 601 posts. | | Join Date: May 2006 Location: Lincoln, UK Experience: It's the name everyone gi | | Hi and welcome to TSG.
What are you full system specifications? If it is a big brand PC like Dell or HP then what is its make and model. If its self built the what Motherboard and Power Supply (Make, Model and Wattage) are you using?
What graphics card are you replacing? Was in an integrated card (part of the motherboard) or have you taken an old one out to put the 9800GTX in? | | Junior Member with 6 posts. | | | | Thanks,
the power supply is a Atrix 500T 650W
I'm not honestly sure about the motherboard, I custom built the pc from pcspecialist a couple of years ago but when it turned up there was no manuals or hardware list and I can't remember and I'm not sure where to look. Is there somewhere I can check? | | Junior Member with 6 posts. | | | | Oh, sorry and I'm replacing and old GeForce 7300GS | | Distinguished Member with 6,090 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 1969 Location: Varkaus/Finland/Northern EU Experience: Been THERE, done THAT ;E | | | | | Junior Member with 6 posts. | | | | okay, will do.
Do you think that is whats likely to have caused the problem then? Or do you think I'm likely to need to change something else as well? (I need to work out a budget if I'm gonna go for the corsair) | | Junior Member with 6 posts. | | | | | | | Distinguished Member with 6,090 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 1969 Location: Varkaus/Finland/Northern EU Experience: Been THERE, done THAT ;E | | | | | Senior Member with 601 posts. | | Join Date: May 2006 Location: Lincoln, UK Experience: It's the name everyone gi | | I would agree with BG, your PSU is likely under powered. Cheap branded PSU rarely provide the power levels they are advertising unless run under ideal condtions, and most PCs dont operate in 'ideal' conditions.
Buying a decent branded PSU will make a difference in the long run, the cheap one may well work for a while but it is likely to blow at some point and will probably take other components with it.
PSU is something you really shouldn't cut costs on. | | Junior Member with 6 posts. | | |
