GeForce 9800 gtx conflict
I bought a new PNY Geforce 9800gtx yesterday and put it in my computer, however when I turn it on the computer crashes at the initial screen with the motherboard logo. It won't even allow me into bios.
The specs for my computer are:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.00ghz
2 Gb of ram (Although I have tried it with 5 gb and still didnt work)
2X 500gb HDD
Windows 7

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Hi and welcome to TSG.

What are you full system specifications? If it is a big brand PC like Dell or HP then what is its make and model. If its self built the what Motherboard and Power Supply (Make, Model and Wattage) are you using?

What graphics card are you replacing? Was in an integrated card (part of the motherboard) or have you taken an old one out to put the 9800GTX in?

Thanks,
the power supply is a Atrix 500T 650W
I'm not honestly sure about the motherboard, I custom built the pc from pcspecialist a couple of years ago but when it turned up there was no manuals or hardware list and I can't remember and I'm not sure where to look. Is there somewhere I can check?

A crap quality power supply like that will break your computer with good parts like the 9800gtx tried to run on it... Replace before doing anything else, and wish you didn't already damage something.

OCZ SXS600 is decent quality, and would be a nice low budget choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341010
Corsair 400CX is better quality, but basically a little underpowered for the specs, especially with the higher power consumption athlon x2 6000 model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139008
I would recomemnd the Corsair TX650 if you care about your computer. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

okay, will do.
Do you think that is whats likely to have caused the problem then? Or do you think I'm likely to need to change something else as well? (I need to work out a budget if I'm gonna go for the corsair)

Ugh. Seems like a non-branded piece of junk. I bet the X-power doesn't even have a website..
Here's the 650TX: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/650W-...e-5yr-warranty
Or: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Pr...V-v2-2--5-year
Shouldn't be too much.

I would agree with BG, your PSU is likely under powered. Cheap branded PSU rarely provide the power levels they are advertising unless run under ideal condtions, and most PCs dont operate in 'ideal' conditions.

Buying a decent branded PSU will make a difference in the long run, the cheap one may well work for a while but it is likely to blow at some point and will probably take other components with it.

PSU is something you really shouldn't cut costs on.
