Hi,

Several suggestions....

The DVD drive you picked out is IDE interface (the big old ribbon type), your better off going with a SATA interface. for a few more dollars you can get a SATA DVD burner.

The case you picked does not have adequate air circulation and will cause your hardware to heat up unnecessarily.

There is a reason that power supply is so cheap...I dougbt it will put out anywhere near the "600 watts" it claims it can. I would go with a known good brand. Something like Antec, Corsair, PC Power&Cooling, Silverstone.. and several other.

I would look for a bigger hard drive as games can fill up smaller drives quite quickly. Also, for a gaming PC, try to look for something with at least 16MB cache on it.

For AMD motherboards.. try to get at least a SB710 southbridge chipset.

Try to watch the combo deals at Newegg... you can end up with a better system in the end.

Look, I put this together for you real quick... its about $100 more expensive then your current build, but it much better in terms of hardware. I added in your games and the 6 ft cable you had, but pretty much changed the rest out.

Now that build has a better case with way better air flow, better power supply that will give you the rated power at efficiency of 80%+, a better keyboard/mouse, a better AM3 motherboard with the SB710 chipset, faster DDR3 memory, bigger and faster 32MB cache hard drive, a SATA DVD burner, better headset, and the best AMD quad-core on the market.

Defiantly worth the extra $100 in my book.

wow
That makes so much sense. Plus if it is only 100 dollars more I think I will actually be able to afford it. I will be getting so much more bang for my buck! THANKS. thank you thank you thank you.

One question, Do you think 500w will be sufficient?

That Antec EarthWatts is a very solid power supply and will handle the system.

The Power supply was reviewed by a trusted site that reviews many power supplies. They gave it a 9 out of 10 on the final score. You can find that four page review Here.

The HD4850 will draw a max of 150 watts. See Here.

Tomshardware did a test with the HD 4870 in a simular pC as I spec'ed out for you above, and they found that the whole system while under load playing games drew about 283 watts.
See Here.

The Sapphire card requires a 500 watt power supply with two 6-pin PCI-E connectors. That Antec power supply has two 6-pin PCI-E connectors.. so your good to go there.

Now, the system I put together up top will draw a little more then the system in that test I linked to, but maybe about 50-90 watts more. So that still leaves a bit of overhead even factoring in that difference.

Hope this help some!

I want to add that the build I did is only one option of many. You can always downgrade the CPU and upgrade the Graphics card. Most games don't need mega CPU power, but they will need mega GPU power. You can also go with an Intel based build instead of an AMD based build. So there are many different paths to take.

There is a place you can go that a lot.. and I mean a lot, of people will help you build your new PC. You can get many different opinions and help.

Go Here. Sign up and ask away. There is a special sub forum for system building on the site (Here is a direct link there).

If you look at the second stcky thread, there is a member who puts together some basic budget builds spanning different price ranges in $100 increments. I used to do these, but life has been busy for that last few years so member jsv35 has taken over (you can see the nod he gives me in the first sentence )

If you join up there, just tell them what your looking to do, give them your budget and what you want/need and you'll get multiple builds like the one I gave you up top.

This site is also a great resource and I come here when I need a higher level of technical assistance, as there are a lot more professional people who frequent this forums . But I find the traffic and participation is greater at the other site and especially if your looking to build with newegg components.

Just tell em Wasper sent ya
