Problem PSU?
Hi guys, this is my first post. Recently installed an XFX 9600GT to my new build but after installing the drivers and rebooting it crashes to black screen once the desktop appears. I've tried everything possible in terms of drivers. system restore etc. I have a feeling this is my 'Generic' PSU a winpower 450w. I think its not up to the task of this GPU. The 9600gt requires 26amp on the 12v rail but my PSU only has 25 on 12v rail, it also doesn't have the dedicated 6pin PCI-E power connector, I had to use the molex adapter. I'm running windows 7 RC, but doubt the problem is with the OC. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I would say just get a new PSU, you don't have enough current through the 12v, and you don't have a dedicted line for the card either. You are going to end up killing your PSU and maybe taking the card/ mobo with it.

Apparently it is the PSU. You said the VGA needs 12V & 26A. The power of the VGA would be: P = U x I = 12 x 26 = 312 W, and your PSU is 450W. Bearing in mind that you have a hard disk, DVD ROM/RAM, and a motherboard with BUS cards and other things, sure these stuff need more than 138W, then there is a shortage of power.

Well, it is better; however, a 600W ps would be way sufficient.
