Possible LCD Failure Dell E1705
Ok guys so i have a dell e1705 laptop here and when you turn it on, it is a complete black screen with blue and white lines going through it. i tried putting a flashlight up to the screen to see if there was any image in the screen but there was nothing.

The person that owns it said they were on facebook and it randomly went to the black blue and white screen with all the lines and what not, so that leads me to believe it isn't the backlight.

You cannot see anything other than black with blue and white lines. They move around here and there.

I tried plugging in a monitor to the output on the laptop and that did not work either.

I also checked the plug that runs from the lcd screen to the board and that was in there nice and tight.

Is there any advice i can get from you guys as to whether it is the screen, the backlight, the inverter, or the video card?

Thanks so much guys

Since you tried an external monitor on it, you did Press the appropriate Fn key combo (Possibly Fn+F5) to turn on the external port I am assuming, and you got the same thing on that screen as the internal LCD right? If this is the case then it is possible the Intergrated Video card is bad.

i tried FN + F8 and it worked. It successfully sent the video to my monitor.

So that means we can rule out the video card right?

Where to from here now?

Thanks for the help.

Try it in Safe Mode by tapping F8 immediately on startup....using arrow keys select Safe Mode and press Enter key

If the screen is the same and you cannot see safe mode then the screen is faulty as an external one works

i switched the laptop over to my monitor, pressed f8, chose safe mode, let it load, then tried to switch the video input back to the laptop and no luck, screen still looks the same.

So i can already safely assume it needs a whole new screen?

ok so i can just order any e1705 screen?

I know ebay can be iffy sometimes but what about this :

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-DELL-INSPIRO...lenotsupported

the guy has good feedback and comes with a 180 day warranty.

The laptop i have here is an inspiron e1705

Is there any info you need to know to know that screen will be compatible with mine?

Thanks again for the help.
