Solved: Windows can't perform Error Check?
Was trying to get my windows to do a scan of my hard drive to check for errors, but the error checker immediately tells me that it cannot perform the check, then stops. Any suggestions?

Is that all it says, does it say anything else like the Volume is in use?

"Windows was unable to complete the disk check".

Nothing else, though it does it on both my main C: drive and my external HD.

Try the run box:
Chkdsk /r c:
It should ask if you want to run at re-boot, as it can't do chkdsk while the volume is in use.

So the problem has escalated into something worse. I am getting the error "the instruction at "0x3dafebd7" referenced memory "0x3e1cf284". The memory could not be read" every time I try to run a program/connect to the internet.

Don't know if it helps, but the problem occurs on both my regular hard drive as well as my external usb drive

So still no idea why this happened, but I've gotten the computer up and running with a clean reinstall of XP. Solved-ish...
