Solved: new heatsink ?
hi guys.

i am currently running a AMD athlon 3200+ in an ASUS A8Ve-SE motherboard. i have just bought a new cpu on ebay from a reliable seller, AMD Athlon dual core 3800+. In my haste i didn't check if it was being sold with a heatsink and fan or not. do u think i can use the same heatsink and fan from my 3200+ or will i have to fork out for new ones ??

any advice much appreciated
thanks

Probably will work, if they are the same socket... BUT I would try and make sure the one on the old single core can keep up with the heat of 2 cores. The price of a fan and heatsink is definitely better than a new CPU.

wow good point i didnt think of that.
yes they are both 939socket but it says on AMD site that my current chip (3200+) :
http://products.amd.com/en-us/Deskto...&f9=&f10=&f11=

runs at 70 (i think its degrees celcius) and the new one (dual 3800+) runs between 49 - 65:

this should mean that my current heatsink and fan should suffice, right ?

thanks for the link, i didnt know they were that cheap.. .well, i live in south africa, so they probably wont be, here.

thanks for the reply, i know this all sound noob
