I am building a new PC for my girlfriend, so i bought a new case, MoBo, Rams and Power supply.
So I put it all in the New Case hook it all up try to switch it on but nothing.
MoBo and CPU http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...EOIBSA:GB:1123
PSU http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...EOIBSA:GB:1123
Rams (cant find a link) they are 2x Corsair 2gb 800mhz
Im sure I plugged everything in (on the Motherboard i plugged in the long one and the 4 pin)
I set the Power SW on all the options on the 9 pin part of the board (orange on my board)
any help would be greatly apreciated | | Member with 38 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Experience: know quite a bit | | | | | Member with 38 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Experience: know quite a bit | | | | | Distinguished Member with 6,040 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Sauntering thru the timestream Experience: Intermediate | | My 1st guess is you're shorting the board somehow in the case.
Same thing happened to me when I moved my pc innards to a new case. I thought I had damaged the mobo somehow because it wouldn't power-up. I checked and re-checked and everything looked fine.
I followed CRJDriver's advice at the top of this forum under Troubleshooting Guide for "Problem Builds".
I tried powering up my mobo on the mobo box with only the psu and it worked! I then reinstalled the mobo into the case and powered it up, connected the fans and powered it up, connected the DVD drive and powered it up, etc. until everything was connected.

Have you made sure the power switch is installed in the correct orientation?
Also, does your case need any motherboard standoffs installed? If you screw the motherboard directly into the case it most likely will not work. As Spandexer said try running the motherboard on the box. If that works it's most likely a grounding issue.
If it doesn't make sure everything is seated properly, the RAM, CPU, power connections etc. Run only the essentials for boot up and unplug all peripherals. | | Member with 38 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Experience: know quite a bit | | well it is a bit late now to go messing with it (way past my bedtime) but im sure to try running it outside of the case tomorow.
Yes Thermal Paste came on the Heatsink its only crappy stuff but does the job
Thanks for the help so far if anyone can think of anything else please do say
Tthanks all for your time | | Member with 38 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Experience: know quite a bit | | ok so it is short circuiting on the Case is there anything i can put under neath the motherboard like paper to stop it ( I do have the raisy bits but they dont seem to work)
I think it might be one of those raisy bits thats doin it though any advice ? | | Distinguished Member with 8,866 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Southeast US Experience: OEM Builder and Repair | | I would guess the "raisy bits" of which you speak are the motherboard standoffs. Did you install the board without the standoffs? If so, how did you get the I/O connectors to align with the I/O shield? Explain why the standoffs don't work? If you did install the motherboard standoffs in the chassis, did you only install the standoffs that aligned with the holes in the motherboard, or did you install some extra standoffs that don't align with the holes in the motherboard?
Take a pic of the motherboard mounting tray without the motherboard installed, and take a pic of the standoffs and attach them with a post.

#10 | Yes, remove the standoffs that don't align with holes in the motherboard they will be what is shorting the board. | | Member with 38 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Experience: know quite a bit |
