Gateway laptop overheating
Hello, I am having trouble with my one year old Gateway laptop Model M-6834. When the computer gets hot, the cooling fan turns on. However, it runs high speed making loud whining noises and alternates from high to low speed, but hardly any air is blown out the side. After awhile the computer shuts itself down. I have removed all the dust from the fan and heat sink, still same problem. Do you have any suggestions on what can be causing this and how to fix it? Is it possible it is a faulty fan even though the fan is turning on?

Thank you for your assistance, I would love to have my laptop running again.

Sounds like you may have a blockage...of dust maybe....the fan sounds like it is doing what it suppose to...by running high to get the heat out......how long does the PC stay on?

Are the fins clean on the heat pipe that are facing the fan.

go to control panel then power options
change plan setting
change advanced power setting
and reduce your max cpu to 50 percent until sorted out

Sorry for the late reply, I've been very busy lately. I have cleaned all the dust out, i cleaned every blade of the fan, and i made sure the fan and heat sink are in the correct place and tightened in appropriately. The fan still sounds like it's working right, but still hardly any air is coming out and it sounds like it struggles at some points. A friend of mine said something about thermal paste or something of that matter would help? I'm not very good with laptops so all help is appreciated! Thank you.

When I say it struggles, I mean it is spinning as fast as it can but not blowing any heat out.

Did you have the heat tube removed and cleaned the forced air side of the fins?
