Computer crashes - is the printer the problem?
I am trying to solve my mom's problem, long distance, hence the username. She has a Gateway DX200 running XP Home, SP3; which has been running fine. She got a Lexmark 4440-w22 a few months ago, still no problems. Just the other day the system kept crashing, but it seems to be ok w/o the printer connected. Could their be a compatability problem after a couple of months? It would be a little easier if I wasn't 300 miles from the system and Mom wasn't comp illiterate, but that's the way it is. Can anybody point me in the right direction to diagnose and fix?

Well if you have diagnose that the crash occurs when the printer is installed then you might first want to ask the result of the virus on the computer of your mom. Because it might be due to much background process.

That sounds more like a hardware problem-a bad cable, drawing too much power or something. Does this printer have a self-test?
Can you try the printer on a different computer? Does it behave differently if you connect it after the computer is booted?
