I need help my cd drive doesnt read anything!
ok. My computer has an ATAPI DVD A DH16A6S SCSI Cdrom drive. it does not pick up cd's. The lens appears to be on but it sounds as if the arm to read the cd is just sliding to the center and bouncing back... all the while overloading my ram and micro-processor for more power to run the cd. i hate this. i bought many computer games and it doesn't read them. when i remove the cd from the drive after 20-30 minutes the disc is hot from the lens. How do i reboot or fix my cd drive to run. Do i have to replace it? I bought extended warranty from best buy... will that cover it? Do i have to get a new computer and have all my stuff gone? dont go easy on terminology. I am a computer nerd or geek whichever group i fall under. Please help me.

If it reads DVDs and not CDs then the Cd part most likely has gone...it uses a different laser......the extended warranty should cover it...but a new drive isn't expensive and easy to install
