Exclamation Solved: Bios freeze
Hey guys,

For the last week i have been trying to fix my rothers computer but havent had any luck. He was playing a game when the pc he has had for the last year and a half froze up. When he went to reboot the everything inside the pc came on (all fans, hard drive spins etc) but nosignal made it to the monitor.

i found a similar issue online that suggested taking out the cmos battery and putting it back in. That got the monitor to work but now the pc freezes in bios or while trying to load windows.

i have tried several things so far such as
thorough cleaning
new cmos battery
flashed the bios with the cd that came with the mobo
ran memtest 86 on the single stick of ram i have in it (it passed)
ran seatools diagnostic on hard drive (repaired 68 bad sectors)
tried to format and reinstall xp ( finished format froze during reinstall)
tried to run it with only the cpu and known good ram attached (still froze)
removed old thermal paste and redid it

sometimes i can use bios for a bit or run test from a cd before the lock ups occur.
bios reads the psu voltages of 3.3 5 and 12 as well as the vcore to be right on target. Also had correct readouts on a multimeter on a molex connector.
mobo temp is 22C
cpu between 40-50C while in bios

pc cyberpower custom
cpu amd athlon 64 x2
mobo asus m2a-vm
ram kingston ddr2 1gb
psu 550W not sure on brand

if u need more info let me know and thanks in advance for any help.
