Solved: Upgrading Computer Drive
Hi,

I have an E-system Ei 314 with an 80gb IDE hard drive in it. I want to upgrade it to a bigger and faster 250gb or 320gb SATA drive. I know I have 4 free SATA ports but I think they are the old type. I just have 2 questions.

1) Are the new SATA 300 hard drive ok to work on the old SATA 150 ports?
2) Can I format the origional 80gb drive and then install windows on the 250 or 320gb drive and still use the code that is on the side of my pc? It is windows XP media centre edition.

Thanking in advance.

The new SATA 300 drives will work as long as they have a speed limiter jumper. Read reviews on newegg, search for "limiter", maybe, and see if the reviews mention the drive having one.
Yes, you can, as long as you use the same motherboard, you can reuse the code.
