Unhappy Please help -- Sound with new speakers only works in Windows Media Player
I recently purchased Altec-Lansing speakers (model VS4121) for my HP desktop PC (running Vista). When I plug the single green wire from the speakers into the green speaker plug in the back of the PC tower, the sound from all applications doesn't work, except for Windows Media Player. It doesn't work with YouTube, iTunes, Quicktime, or anything else -- the video I can see though. When I unplug the speakers and just use a headset connected to the headset jack in the front of the PC tower, the sound works again for all applications through the headset. I assume that since the sound works for WMP with the speakers plugged in, and it works for all applications without the speakers plugged in but with the headset plugged in, there's nothing wrong with the speakers, the sound card, or the audio mixer, right? Is there a driver problem or some sort of conflict with these speakers and Windows Vista? Do I need to download new HP audio drivers? It seems very odd that the sound only works with WMP.
