Display and audio driver help
Hey folks,

Here is my problem. My old computer recently died a painful death. A fabulous friend gave me his old computer that he just retired. I wiped his harddrive and loaded my Windows XP and have been getting it all set up. But it wont recognize my speakers or my monitor. After a great deal of googling I have figured out it's a driver problem-I have the yellow question marks for Multimedia Audio Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible).

I have never dealt with drivers before! If I'm understanding correctly I need to figure out what this computer is and get drivers specific for it, correct? It's not a name brand computer, and I'm having trouble figuring out what it is. Sadly, my friend doesn't know and has none of his old discs or manuals.

Can someone walk me through this?
Please and thank you!!

You can try right clicking on the devices that have the question marks and selecting update driver. then when the install wizard pops up tell it to search the internet. this does not always work but can sometimes.

I've tried updating the drivers, it didn't do anything.

I'll open up my machine tonight when I get home and let you know.

Thanks for the replies!
