help with audio driver
I have an hp pavilion running windows vista. Two days ago I let windows update do its thing and it attempted to install the Conexant high definition smartaudio HD2. This resulted in a red x mark over my volume icon in the right corner and no sound for my laptop. I tried to restore my system to before the update, no go. I then went to recovery manager and tried to reinstall the original driver. it said it had worked but when i restarted still no sound. When i go to the Sounds menu it has a green check mark like its working but it will stall and then my computer will say "Windows Common Shell Dll" has stopped working.
Anyway I hae been at this for two days please help if you can. I don't know what happened to mess up my audio driver this badly. It also gives me the message that "driver installation failed could not find the media device for this driver"
