Unhappy Extremely slow and i can't run in safe mode
Hi, i am new to this forum, so i hope this is in the right section.

I am not sure what is the cause of this problem but i suspect it may be a virus or problem with one of my system 32 files. Heres the details:

I am running vista 64bit with 4gb ram and a 500gb harddrive although i was about to upgrade to 1 tb harddrive. My graphics card is a nvidia ge-force 9800 and i am running with an amd phenom.

Last night i noticed my computer was acting alittle slow, so slow that things stopped responding and i had to restart it. After restarting it it was still alittle slow but i was able to play left4dead one of my online pc games. After playing left4dead i decided to scan my pc for viruses. The deep system scan found 14 viruses. I was not that shocked since i had downloaded a couple of things off torrents lately but i was still pretty concerned. I cleaned these viruses but bitdefender could not clean 4 or 5 of them. I followed the instructions and rebooted. I then continued on my computer as normal and then went to bed. The next day i went to turn on my pc. I booted normally and logged in, the pc was INCREDIBLY slow. It also took ages to load up my two antiviruses vipre and bit defender. I clicked on the start menu and it took about 2 minutes to load up. I tried to access "My Computer" to check out my c: drive after waiting 30 minutes it finally opened up but was not responding. I tried rebooting several times but to no avail. If you are wondering why i have two antiviruses it is because vipre had not detected a case of poison ivy on my pc so i had gotten bitdefender 09.

I decided to run in safe mode, so i rebooted and tapped F9 (i think it's F9) and started up safemode. It started to load up all the system 32 files and then stopped at crcdisk.sys and just stayed there with the please wait words on the bottom. So this is why i presume this is a system 32 error. I by removing the malware last night it may have triggered something causing something to go wrong with my system 32 files. Also when i finally got task manager going after a few hours it said my cpu was only running at 12%. I also checked my process and nothing malicous seems to be running. This computer is only 3 months old and i would really appreciate some help. At first i thought the problem was dust so i cleaned out my pc but it didnt help.

Please Please help me I am at a loss of what to do, i have tried booting my vista cd but i cant even get into my computer to start it running.

I would appreciate it so much if someone here could help me, i am panicking and i am scared of losing 400gb of data i have on my hard disk. Thank you guys for helping me with my problem i really hope you can help.

P.S i am posting this using an old laptop of mine and if you would like more details on anything please ask.

First of all, data you do not backup is data you do not care about. You must have at least two copies of anything important.

Next I would start with some basic diagnostic apps;

1 Download and run the hard disk mfg's utility for checking the drive. You download this from whomever made the drive ie WD, Seagate, etc. FWIW if you have a seagate drive, some of them needed a firmware update before they failed. If you have a seagate drive, check the serial number at the seagate site.

2 Download and run memtest
Note both of the above run from bootable media so no need for an os to even be installed. You will need a working system to make the bootable CDs however.

You will need to set the bios to boot from CD as the first boot device for both of the above apps.

Crj if Bit defender could not remove some things, and that is not really a scan for spyware either, I think it would be more prudent to post a hijackthis log here because with P2p downloading, there no doubt is a ton of spyware onboard.

True enough; it never hurts to have a hijack log scanned for problems. I think with the current problem, he cannot access windows. Safe mode and normal mode will not boot for him.

Well I missed that he has 2 antivirus programs and he can boot but can't move, yet there is no mention of trying safe mode...I would boot to safe mode and uninstall an antivirus program if possible immediately. Then post hjk log.
