broken...help me! electric trasfomer?External HDD
Dear Expert.

I was using
BUFFALO HD-H300u2 External HDD which I bought in Japan.

and this one has been broken...(I was using in U.K.)

I was using electric transformer 100v to 240v
but I think Transformer had a bit of problem.
I stepped on Electric Transformer, then I could see the inside of
transformer...I was using that for a while with this HDD, but
keep switching off and kinda smelly sometimes, I completely forgot about
it was half broken, and I used it yesterday...

suddenly this HD cannot switch on (as the transformer) , then I can hear strange small sound zizizizizi when I plug into normal safe transformer..

I don think its HDD damaged(I hope)but the power supply...
I just wonder if this Japanese HDD can be usable in the HDD case

like > LUPO 3.5" HDD USB 2.0 External IDE Hard Disk Case Enclosure

take out from the case and put in the case.
cos the Voltage is different from UK...
and i have no idea what is inside the baffalo product
is it 3.5inch? special one? maybe 2HD?
its 300GB...

normal internal HDD I don think there is a difference between Japanese, UK...

or maybe I should buy HD case in Japannnnn?

Thank you

Hard drive cases can be swapped, as the HD itself is universal. The Buffalo probably had a Hitachi HD inside it, which can be either -

- installed into a new HD case purchased locally

- installed INTO a desktop/tower computer directly as a second internal HD (depending on availablility of a PATA or SATA connection inside said computer).

Hard drives are hard drives (at least current types). There are currently two types of 3.5" units out there - SATA and PATA (formally EIDE). I would assume the HD in the case is SATA, since that is the current standard. If you wished to install it into the computer directly, your motherboard will need to have an SATA jack. To have one, your computer/motherboard will need to have been made within the last 3 or 4 years. If you have an older computer that does not have an SATA jack, you can still install it internally by adding an SATA PCI card like this one - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...348&CatId=1455 - otherwise, if you wish to keep it external, using a replacement HD Case like this one - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...7&Sku=T13-5026 - will do.

An SATA cable will be needed to install this drive into your computer as well, such as this - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...73414&CatId=84
