#16 | Once again, thanks for the help. Now comes the hardest question...wait for the new ATIs to come out, or get one now. It looks like ATI is keeping things somewhat hush-hush, but they might be out by the end of the year. I am not sure I want to wait that long to get my new comp up and running... | | Junior Member with 9 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: Columbus, OH Experience: Intermediate |

#18 | Tough, ain't it? Do you currently have a PCIe video card?
Adding up your parts, without the OS or Video card.
You're total is about $680. (With a Corsair 650watt PSU)
The 5850 may be $250~300... and should be out any day.
But if in the next day or so, nothing NEW is out on the market - then I wouldn't spend more than $100 or so on any current card. There are many ATI 4850s to choose from for $90~115.
4850: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=&srchInDesc=
Then wait about 8~9 months later, the 5850 should be down to $200~230. We won't be seeing any DX11 games any time soon.

#19 | Acer LCDs tends to be pale in colors. You should check them out in real life.
Some monitors are EXTRA wide screen (cheaper to make) which I think are way to narrow. It costs a tad bit more, but check out these 1920x1200 monitors. $300~315 for 24" and $360 for 25.5/26". But most of these include HD Tuners, more imputs and a remote control. Last year I spent $400 for just the display

#20 | The ATI 5800s have been released on schedule.
The 5850 is a $260 part (maybe higher if demand is higher than supply) . The 5870 is a $380 part.
Here is the article: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3643&p=1
Newegg should be able to start take orders in a day or so.
Also discussed in this very detailed 27-page article, is the PSU/noise issue that happes in most GTX cards and almost half the 4800s... apparently no so with the 5800s.

#22 | As neither is in stock right now, try to get this on higher priority: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150442 for its lifetime warranty. Or get a temporary card, price should drop in a few weeks. Should. I can't know.
Change power supply to: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 to save some money.
After that it gets a bit tricky. You could get a 785G board instead of the 790X to save some money, but it's not much and it is something that has an impact on the computer's capabilities, unlike with the power supply (you don't really need modular cables as you have a roomy case with awesome cable management design)
You're going to end up paying multiple extra fees with multiple shipments, yes. I don't know for sure, as I haven't ordered from newegg, for a certain reason... But you could look into this: http://promotions.newegg.com/Newegg/PA110708/index.html (probably makes up a quite hefty amount in half a year, but it isn't over 850 in one go.

#23 | Going over your list.
1 - The 5850 is going to be difficult to get over the next week or so... so place your order and newegg will mail it out when its in stock, first come first serve. But you may order order brand-G, but they get in brand-A. As of now, there is NO difference between any of these cards. So you MAY want to put a AUTO-NOTIFY on ALL cards (like others do) and buy whatever becomes available.
2 - PSU, $190? Its $150 before rebate. get the non-modular brother (650watt) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 its $99 before $10 rebate. (-$90)
3 - RAM, for AMD - go with 800mhz memory. Its more flexible than 1066. Also lower latency. Look at these with a good cooling design: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231209
4 - Mobo: The 785 has onboard video so you can build you PC before you get your video card. its $20 less and has two 16x-slot (8x x 8x mode) slots. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128395
5 - The CPU is $6 cheaper than listed.
Remember, you've selected a top end video card and CPU... so you're price is a bit on the high side. But cheaper than the PCs 4 or 8 years ago
(CPU adjustment made)
With the PSU adjustment: $849
With PSU & mobo adjustment: $829 (This is math if I deduct from your total)
Prices above don't include OS. $100 for OEM Win7 (18 days to go)
If I go with your selection, with 785 mobo & 650w PSU with my addition: $881 (before shipping)

#24 | Oh yeah... check out COMBO deals on all items you have selected. Sometimes if you adjust slightly or mark it as a combo - you could shave $10~40 off your purchase or get free junk. | | Junior Member with 9 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: Columbus, OH Experience: Intermediate |

#25 | other thoughts If I change mobos, will the performance of my comp suffer? I changed the PSU and the RAM and the more I think about the computer I am getting, I am happy with the price. I don't need to buy an OS, because I am getting a copy of Windows 7 from the Microsoft Expert Zone.
Combo deals - Cooler Master sileo 500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119192 with the processor. is the case any good?
other than that, not too many combo deals that dont mess with the processor.
So the brand of the video card really doesn't matter, as long as it has the ati 5850 chip in it? Good to know.
Thank you again for all of the great information. I am very excited to build my first PC from scratch. It is fairly straight forward from what I have done/seen. Am I going to have to solder anything? | | Distinguished Member with 4,764 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Dallas Experience: Advanced |

#26 | The difference in performance between the AMD 770 mobo and a 790 is minimal... like 0 to 0.5fps... The 785 is newer than the 790... and cheaper.
If going with a case without a window... then wire-management isn't quite as important. I'd still look at the $40~50 savings for the Corsair 650. Either one will work.
Look at this case... its pretty nice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ec+300&x=0&y=0
There is no soldering... read the manuals, and refer to our recommendation POSTS above.
