Exclamation Solved: computer Randomly shuts down, and does not start back up
Well, this happened to me awhile back. it stopped. Now its happening again, this time its worse.

Well, While I'm using my computer, whether it be browsing online, burning a disc, playing a game, or even while i'm gone at work.
My computer will turn off randomly.
After it turns off, it does not turn back on.
Its not my house, cause nothing else turns off including another computer on the same circuit breaker.

Sometimes I can get it to come on by pressing the power button a few times /and/or flipping the power suplpy with a few times.

But this last time it has been off for over an hour, and still hasn't come back.

The only thing I did before this started was open up my computer.
I unplugged it, and plugged in a hard drive in place of cdrom for a few hours.
It did not turn off during this time.
Afterwards I plugged the cdrom back in, and that was the end of it.
About 2 days later my computer started doing this.

I do have a working ground.

Sometimes I can get it to turn on for less than a second, but it will turn off again.
Its even been on for a whole minute and thne turned off. As I said, completely random

The only extra information I have is, a usb hub plugged into my computer flickers when I plug my computer back in. (turns on and turns off once)

If I immediately unplug and plug it back in it doesnt do this. Seems to happen only If I leave the computer plugged in with the power supply switch set to off for a couple mins, and then set it to on

I'm not sure if that last part helps or not, but I just threw it in there

Maybe you have a problem with your Fan. Try checking if it is mounted on the Motherboard correctly. If the inside of your computer gets too hot it will shut down to prevent a fire.

Sounds like it could be your Power Supply (PSU)

I guess that could be a problem. I didn't want to say it thought. Its an expensive power supply that I've had for a couple years. I don't have a spare to test it with though. I'm still wondering why it suddenly started doing this after months of nothing. Or why did it stop before?

Hard to say why....but trying that PSU on another PC or trying another PSU in that PC will clarify things

I found some spare parts around, and tested the power supply with a different motherboard, it works just fine.

Power supply is good

Everything else in this computer is less than 6 months old

OK, using process of elimination, I plugged in 1 thing at a time, and determined that my computer does not turn on only when the 6pin power cable is connected to my video card.

Vid Card---
xfx GeForceŽ 8800 GT Alpha Dog 256MB DDR3 Standard
(PV-T88P-UDF4)

M/b
MSI G31M-F Intel G31 Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard

PSU
Ultra X2 ULT31852 550-Watt Power Supply - ATX, 120mm Fan, UV Sides, SLI Ready, SATA-Ready, 20/24-Pin, Modular
