Exclamation Samsung 204b Slow to redraw
I am a bindery equipment engineer/technician and have over 2 decades of both electronic repair experience and software programming, just to let you know before hand.

This has got me flustered.

My monitor just left it's 3 year warranty last month, so of course it had to happen. I turn it on which system is booting on, and I get a very bright, almost like starburst across screen which started from bottom right and went to top left. very alarming. Then once windows 7 is booting up, the screen looks real pixelated almost like when you blow up a small resolution picture to 500%. It get's into windows and immediately I cannot read whats on the screen, for some reason it appears like the contrast is at max and SLOWLY coming down. I cannot locate my mouse. I immediately turn monitor off and unplug both DVI cable and power. wait about 2 mins then reconnect and power back up monitor only to be greeted with a nice screen. I was like woah ok its good, I go to move my mouse and it leaves a long trail behind it. Working slowly I track the mouse over to my computer and double click it, and when the window pops up, my screen is instantly brighter than I cared to stare at. But I notice that it gets darker after about 30 seconds. If I had to guess it was redrawing the desktop at about 1 FPS(if that). I tried resetting monitor to default settings, tried different resolutions, even higher refresh rates(75hz max) which actually appeared to help but nothing that made it usable. I disconnected monitor from computer and connected the db15 cable connector to my laptop and it still was doing same thing. tried OSX and still same thing. Tried removing boards and checked for capacitors being bad and all were good , checked resistors for out of range resistance, all checked out within the 5 percentile. So for the most part everything that I would have thought to be wrong has been checked and it seems like it should work. I did a search for the main board with the 3 IC chips and only one company claims to have one, all the rest no longer stock and samsung will not repair this monitor for less than 300 bucks(paid 400 brand new over 3 years ago and have had it replaced with a refurb when original went bad). That board is labeled as a Code Number "BN41-00620E". If there is anything else I can do or answer to get this fixed please by all means let me know.

Maybe one from Ebay for spare parts ???
Might be less than getting a new ckt board ??

I love my twin 204Bs .. But both backlites went out just over two years.
Samsungs warranty is great.

Over 3 years .. And I'd also be worried about the backlites.
For a true 4:3 ratio monitor ... I'm thinking these are worth fixing.
Can't find a true 4:3 monitor anymore.

FWIW ..
I've also upgraded to 2 Samsung wide screens.
The only monitor I could find that was the same size (~viewing height) and with a thin, non-glossy bezel ..
That doesn't shine back at you or show finger prints .. was the 2443BWT from Newegg.

And Welcome to the TSG Forum
