Joysticks aren't recognized
I am trying to get two old joysticks to work via a gameport-USB adapter cable, since my computer doesn't have a gameport. The joysticks are a Logitech Wingman model #3001 and a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro. The adapter is a USB Plug Series A to D-sub 15-pole jack, art. no. K5306.020. I need them to work on Windows XP, though it would be nice if they also work on Windows 7.

When I plug either of them in, nothing happens. They also don't appear in the device manager. When I try to add them via control panel -> game controllers, I get an error saying the gameport or drivers aren't properly configured.

I don't have the original cd-roms for the joysticks, because I got them from a friend who had them lying around in a dusty corner for ages.

I really hope someone can help me. I need to get these joysticks (or any two joysticks) working as soon as possible for a school project.

I found a drawing for it here: http://www.dbv-electronic.com/index..../USB-Kabel.php

If it really is just an adapter cable with no electronics inside I think you would need USB drivers for the joysticks in order for Windows to know what is connected.

Yes, that's the one.

Sounds logical... But any idea where I could find USB drivers for ancient joysticks that weren't made for USB?

Just curious, did Windows show a 'New Hardware Found' message when you plug the adapter in? That would indicate it has some electronics inside. Otherwise it is just a cable.
