Question BIOS won't detect IDE Drives
Mobo: Asrock AliveNF7G-HD720P-R5.0
CPU : AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ @ 2.0Ghz
RAM : 2x2GB OCZ Gold DDR2 1066
HDD : WD 800 80GB IDE
DVD : LG GH22NP20 IDE
BIOS : American Megatrends v02.62
O/S : None
Hi, I'm building the above system but am having a problem with the BIOS detecting IDE drives. I have tried 3 seperate HDDs but the Bios won't see them properly, corrupting the names and saying they're all 0MB, it wont detect a dvd drive at all; I have tried the above named and a similar Panasonic and get exactly the same results each time.
I have tried 3 different ribbon cables and every configuration of jumpers possible all with the same or similar results, the dvd is not found and the HDD info is wrong.
The BIOS has the onboard IDE controller enabled and SATA controller is set to non raid; all the SATA drives read fine but I can't install an O/S without the DVD and I don't want to buy one only to find that the board won't recognise that either. I haven't installed the discs for the mobo for the obvious reason and I am really scratching my head, I've tried Google but can't find a post for a similar problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading this.

I think if you check the Ocz memory site and use the configurator, you will note Ocz has no memory compatible with that motherboard. It's a common mistake, people just pick out a speed and plug it in, but actually that is the least important factor in matching ram to a motherboard.
