Hard drive enclosure help
Hi all,

I'm just having a problem with a hard drive enclosure I recently bought. My Dell hard drive recently started causing me a bit of trouble so I bought this enclosure in the hope of diagnosing & backing up the hard drive on another computer.

The hard drive is http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=314041 and was in my Dell Dimension 9150.

The enclosure is actually at the bottom of that page as part of "Accessories for this product" so I presumed they were compatible http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=326875

Having opened up the enclosure it seems to have only an IDE connection on it (http://www.vgmusic.com/faq/gallery/plugs/p-IDE.jpg), while the Dell hard drive is a SATA connection (http://www.pcstats.com/articleimages...H62N_sata2.jpg) . I can't for the life of me figure out how this is an accessory for that hard drive without buying one of these http://img.diytrade.com/cdimg/393891...TA_ADAPTER.jpg

Any suggestions on what I'm missing? Have I just bought the wrong enclosure?

Thanks for any help.

Edit: updating dead link

Here's all the information for the enclosure including installation instructions. Perhaps the manufacturer just left the adapter you need out of the packaging.

I've received a few items where all the parts were not in the package.

Is this your Data Sheet ???

It looks like all you need is the SATA cable for the HDD.
They probably assumed it came with the SATA HDD.

Hi Noyb,
thanks for the response. Yes, I think you may be right. Excuse my ignorance, I've never really opened up or removed anything from my PC before, but would I be correct in saying that I can remove the wire that was attached to the hard drive in my PC and use it to for the connection shown in the enclosure diagram?

Thanks

Thanks to win2kpro .. I was able to find the data sheet from his link.
Not sure you can remove one cable from your computer .. but if a spare - Yes

Not all HDDs come with a SATA cable.

Sorry win2kpro! Thanks for that link. I'll go back to the shop and see if they can sort me out with a cable. Appreciate both your help.

Next time around .. you might want to look for an Enclosure made for SATA.

Do you also have Acronis True Image to go with the external ??
