screen freezes up if I dont 'jiggle' screen!!
HELP!

I am using a ASUS G1 series, about 2.5 years old. Everything was working fine until yesterday my screen froze up and went all grey/white. programs were still running, but screen just grey. tried to reboot without sucess as screen went all grey straight a way.

when I finally managed to get back into windows, I found out that I have to move the screen (laptop lid) back and forth real quick so it doesnt freeze up!

after I ran a complete norton scan, everything was back to normal. until now. same thing happening again! Thats why I am not entirely sure if it is a hardware problem. It might just be a very strange software problem? or just loose cableing??

I would be very greatful for some good advice on how to fix this myself. no warranty left, no money. gotta go to class now.

thanks for reading!

Thanks for the reply.

I thought so too at first. But e.g. now everything is fine... nothing unusual. but Im sure I will have the same problem again in an hour or two.

Actually it started just now. How do the sensors work that tell the pc when I close the lid completly? would the also be able to detect a very small movement?

I still suspect a some kind of software related problem because the problem seems to come and go.

Also the reaction time of the cursor gets very slow when the problem accures. just like it would freeze up. not sure if that could be related to the wireing. hopefully its not a motherboard or hard disc fault.

Any other ideas?

hmm.. are you sayin that as soon as the color grays, your pc actually slows down?
its your laptop right? it will have a vga out i suspect..
try connecting it with a monitor and see if you get the same problem.. this might narrow down the causes that lead to similar effects.

now its gone bad again. I guess it really is the wireing. is there any way I can fix this myself or take it to a local computer shop? I dont want to send it in to asus as this is expensive and it takes ages to get back to me! this is definetely the last asus I ever bought. only trouble from the first day.

i dont want to disappoint you but i am absolutely clueless. but then again, if a jiggle fixes a screen, its quite conclusive of a loose wiring. if i were you, i'd send it back to asus rather than giving it to some local shop but then again, its completely up to you.
lets wait n see if someone else has an answer to your misery..
