Computer Randomly Restarting
Hi. I've looked through some posts related to my issue and I can't seem to find the answer to my problems. Basically, my computer randomly restarts. I used to think that the problem only occurred when I was playing graphic intensive games, but unfortunately, my computer just restarts when I'm opening a window.

Thinking that it may be my graphic card, I replaced my old graphics card (EVGA 8800GTS 512MB, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130325) with an 512MB EVGA 9800GT. It solved my problem for a week or so, but then yesterday, my computer randomly reboots again.

The game I play which causes the reboot the most is Heroes of Newerth. I don't know if you guys have played it, but it is a graphically intensive game. I don't think there is the possibility of overheating as most people would think. I have Speed Fan running and also the EVGA Precision Tool which tells me the temperature of my graphics card. My graphics card stays around 42-46 C idle depending on my room temperature and jumps to 55-59 when playing HoN. My CPU and system usually stay around 31-34 but other temp reading software tell me 37, so I'm not really sure.

What's also weird is when my computer restarts, sometimes, my computer runs all its fans at max speed. I can hear all the fans going off but my monitor doesn't display anything. It's as if only my fans are spinning while everything else isn't working. I can clearly hear the difference between this weird event and a regular startup. Then I just hold my power button to shut it off but then I usually pull the plug in the back from my computer, press the power button, and then plug it back in which lets it start back up normally.

Here are my computer specs:

Motherboard: ASUS P5E
CPU: E8400 Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz Wolfdale
PSU: OCZ 700W ATX12V
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2) DDR2 (PC2 8000)
HD: 2 x Seagate Barracuda 500GB (RAID0)
Soundcard: bluegears B-enspirer 7.1
OS: Windows 7 Build 7600

I looked at my event logger to see what kind of errors there were and at the time of the restarts I got this.

I had the same issue and it turned out to be utorrent 1.84 running on windows 7....

A very unstable realease...

Other than that you may want to download and boot memtest

ohh.. serious?? utorrent?? just the program itself causing the reboots?? cause usually i don't have it open, especially when i play the game.

yea i also ran memtest.. it wasn't like the official one. it was the exe version and i ran it for 8 hours or so and it came up no errors.

yea.. so i just uninstalled utorrent and it didn't seem to fix the issue. It's weird cause I never get any bsods or anything. just random restarts. I even unchecked the thing where it wont automatically restart if there is an error. I don't remember what it's called but even with that unchecked, I still don't bsod.

Mabe im just being superstitious...

Regardless... check all the latest windows 7 updates, driver updates for your sytem.. and check out the bios updates as well...

yea all my stuff is up to date.. my bios is kinda updated.. i'm like 3 updates behind but the changes to the updates don't really affect my computer, so I don't really want to update because im scared of my computer crashing while updating.

i was thinking more hardware issues. what i don't really understand is when i replaced my graphics card, my computer was fine for 4 days or so. But then, it's starting up again. So then, i replaced my graphics card again, but this time, that wasn't the problem.

i also just noticed something.. when my computer randomly restarts, it seems as if my configurations are reset. Like, i have digsby, and i usually have it on save password and auto connect, but when my computer restarts, its like all the information is reset or something. It's not on the configurations anymore.

Come to think of it I also did update my sata to raid drivers and thats when my random restarts stopped as well...

Check for any new sata/raid driver updates for your motherboard... on asus.com

alright i take a look at that..

anyways, today, i thought that it might be my ram messing up my computer. so what i did was, i pulled off one of the sticks to see if my ram was bad. i started up the game and it seemed to work fine. So then i changed out my ram with my other stick to see if that the stick itself was the issue. That worked fine as well. So then, i put both sticks back in and then it randomly restarted trying to open the game. So i figured that maybe it might be my slot thats broken. Is that possible in the cause for restarting??

kk nvm about the RAM part.. i thought it was working but it restarted once again.. but this time it seemed like my graphics card died because i could hear it normally restarting but there was no display.. then i moved my graphics card to a different slot and it worked just fine. It seems as if all my slots on my motherboard are dying.

Sounds like your computer may be starved for power. sometimes its just the power supply and sometimes its the other twenty things plugged in before your computer gets its power. Also open case and check for any capacitors that may be puffed up on the mother board the little round things that stick up all over they should not look round on the top they should feel very flat. If a powers supply is over heating it can put out less power also check the fan to the power supply also.

so basically i went to go buy a new motherboard 2 days ago. My computer seemed to work fine but for some reason, sometimes, not as often, it restarts. However, when i check the event log, there's no critical error like there was before. And today, I'm not really sure but I couldn't even get past the windows welcome screen. I'd see the vista loading and then i'd get into the welcome screen and it suddenly restarts. So I did a system restore and it seems to be fine right now. Any ideas as to why theres no critical error in the event logger anymore when it restarts??

okay nevermind about the system restore fixing my issue.. Yea it's still restarting still.. no event logger message and now i cant get past the welcome screen again. but also, i checked and now the heat sink fan on the cpu doesnt spin anymore. My graphics card blows max as it always does but my heatsink fan no longer spins.
